As we have been basking in the glorious summer sunshine, the Government has been releasing details on their planned reforms for home buying and selling. The reforms include:

  • Sales Packs at the beginning of a transaction to incorporate status of chain, leasehold costs and a home condition report.
  • Sellers and buyers to enter into binding agreements earlier in the process, subject to further consultation.
  • Digital tools to be supported by Government including AI conveyancing, digital property logbooks and sales packs, digital identification checks and electronic signatures, and a reduction in the duplication of anti-money laundering checks.
  • Improved professional standards for property agents with a new code of practice and a government consultation on mandatory qualifications for the sector.

Anticipated timelines for non-statutory changes are later this year with further changes planned for 2027-2028. These reforms could prove quite substantial and we will therefore be keenly awaiting further details as the consultations progress.
