How can a solicitor help if there is a serious crisis regarding the care of your children? We are consulted after the police and social services are already involved because a parent or family member has been advised by those agencies to obtain an order from the court. (This is different to Care Proceedings when social services make their own application to the court, often where neither parent is thought suitable to look after the children.)
Such cases are treated as priority and we can often see you the same day or within 24 hours. It is essential to obtain prompt advice as an urgent application to the court may be required to protect you and/or the children. Examples of such crisis situations can include where one parent develops a drink or drugs problem whilst caring for the children, a parent begins a relationship with a third party who poses a risk to the children, a child reveals that one of the parents or a parent's partner is abusing them or where a parent refuses to return a child to the main carer after contact.
