Reviewing Wills
By Emma Lockwood
Making a Will is something we should all consider. There are key moments in life that may trigger us to arrange one - getting married or moving in with a partner, having a child, or purchasing a property are all significant life stages.
How many of us, though, once we’ve made a Will think about reviewing or updating it?
Life events such as children reaching adulthood, becoming a grandparent, a further house move, the death of a beneficiary or a divorce are just a few examples of when you may wish to check that an original Will is still fit for purpose. Modern living arrangements with blended families also require significant care when planning for the future. A well thought through Will can provide a roof over a loved one’s head or give them a right to income, whilst preserving an eventual inheritance for other family members, friends or even charities.
It may be the case that your current Will achieves your goals, but it can be reassuring to have a review carried out by a qualified Will drafter who can highlight any areas that need to be addressed due to changes in your circumstances. At Sampson Coward we are happy to assist you with a ‘no obligation, free of charge’ Will review. If you then decide to make a new Will or amend an existing Will, our Will and Codicil fees are on a fixed cost basis. Remember – a Will is there to help your loved ones administer your estate effectively when you die; if it’s not up to date, your estate may not pass on in the manner you expect.
